Vertical social networking for a greater good.
Dubbed a 'one stop philanthropy shop' by TechCrunch, Causecast is the platform where media, philanthropy, social networking, and education converge to serve a greater purpose.
The Citrusbyte team worked to build and architect a robust and highly customized social networking website that would support typical social features in addition to user donations, credit-card transactions, embed-able widget tracking, and an expansive content management system.
Unsatisfied with the idea of becoming just another non-profit, Causecast aimed for the sky. By creating the platform that brings non-profit organizations to a user base ready to help, we enabled Causecast to harness the power of the individual and bridge the gap between online interaction and real-life change.
It started with all the standard social networking features: profiles, user settings, friends, commenting, etc. Then came user-generated content, an intricate participation reward system, and interactive flash media.
To deal with the massive traffic spike during the TechCrunch50 Finalist presentation our team ran a series of pre-launch load modeling tests. With the results in hand we were able to confidently implement a multi-layer caching strategy, leaving Causecast well prepared for even the most intense traffic loads.
