Behind the Code

Citrusbyte was founded in 2007 with the mission to become the go-to technology consultancy for building world-class, one of a kind, web applications and web based businesses. The founders of Citrusbyte saw how many great ideas were killed simply because of poor execution by technology teams that didn't treat their work as a craft. We knew we could provide the perfect place for entrepreneurs to come for their “black belt tech shop,” and where large companies could inject entrepreneurial innovation into their existing product development efforts.

We've been on a mission to build one of the best teams in the world and so far we've been doing pretty well. Out of Citrusbyte we've incubated projects like Monk and a whole series of open-source projects in our labs . Our team of engineers, product management, user experience and design talent is our dream-team of talent we will use on our own products, and also the same team our clients have access to. By having the best people we're able to do a few things: attract more great people, retain our great people, build applications faster by being smarter and be able to have the right team in place for when we build applications for ourselves.

In a company like Citrusbyte, engineering drives the business. Our people are all a aligned to creating well architected, extensible, highly scalable applications. We don't do ad-hoc, throw-away development ( not to confuse that with throw-away technology used in the customer development process ). Because our engineers like working on great code and with great tools we've developed a library of re-usable components that are tested and well known by the team. By using these tools we can deliver more business value in less time.

We know that by building a best-in-class services business we would be able to build scalable revenue, a deep business network and acquire real-world experience across many domains via dozens of start-ups and corporate projects. The talent in Citrusbyte has built multiple start-ups and had discussions on the business models and product approaches of dozens more. This experience and network we're developing will help us incubate some amazing ideas in the future, which will only help us attract better talent.

As for our own ideas, we know that there is more to launching a product than just writing code. It requires the day in and day out passion and drive to push a product to market, find revenue and grow profitably. Our ideal way of making products is through great strategic partnerships which allow us to remain focused on what we do best: engineering world-class web applications and products.

We are a distributed company, with headquarters in Los Angeles, CA. Our engineering staff is located in California, the western US and South America. We never found a functional office that worked for us so we eventually installed ourselves into a large home that works as our own hotel for when employees need to travel, and as our collaborative workspace and play space. It’s a great creative environment fostering hard work and relaxed imagineering while hanging out next to our pool.
